About the Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing

The Lundgren Center connects corporations with promising students, enriches education with real-world experiences and conducts outreach that benefits consumers worldwide. By working to more closely align industry and academics, we help strengthen the economy and ensure that students graduate not only ready to meet today’s workforce needs, but primed to become its future captains.

From The Director

If you ask anyone in the retailing industry why they love their job, there are lots of answers: the fast pace, the high energy, the endless career opportunities and the constant parade of challenges. Those challenges and today’s unprecedented, breakneck evolution and industry disruption are the reasons the Lundgren Center exists.

The UA’s Retailing and Consumer Sciences degree program gives our students a vital foundation of retailing knowledge, and at the same time, we build a bridge to real-world, right-now experiences. By connecting students to the inside world of retailing, we give them a clear look at what a rich career it offers, and we give them the experience to create value for their future employers starting their first hour on the job.

Today, our team's job is to ensure the Lundgren Center develops those skills in students — for their success and the success of our corporate partners, whose investments help us create a talent pipeline like none other. That’s the value we create for retailing, and it’s the value we create for parents who want their kids not just to graduate but to launch — into

About Terry J. Lundgren
What might have been something ordinary – the inviting of a successful alum to return to his alma mater – turned out to be a moment of something extraordinary – one that has taken Terry J. Lundgren, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of Macy's Inc, and the UA’s Retail Center on a transforming journey. In 2005, faculty in the John and Doris Norton School of Family and Consumer Sciences chose to honor this retailing executive by naming their top-flight retailing center the Terry J. Lundgren Center for Retailing. Terry, an UA alumnus, came to campus in 1995 to speak to the students, with an inspiring presentation, “From Campus to CEO”, which drew hundreds of students. Since then, Terry and Macy’s Inc. (formally Federated) have been outstanding partners; Terry has personally established scholarships, many students have benefited from his generosity, and Macy’s supported the creation of a career service center in the new Student Union.
