Alicia M. Alvarez

Not many people have a job is where their dog runs away with the client samples! I work for CLA which is the largest pet products broker firm in the USA for pet specialty. My day to day is working with clients on their pet products to create strategies for merchandising, planograms, inventory management, sales, and marketing. I then present these strategies to Petco Corporate to help create a store full of solutions & innovations that include my client’s products. This unique, fun job allows me to integrate every aspect of retailing, and even bring my pups to work!

I graduated from the Retailing & Consumer Sciences program in 2007 after completing an internship with PetSmart as a product manager. I enjoyed the merchandising & visual aspect and knew I was headed in the right career direction. I accepted an offer upon graduation with DFS Group Ltd. in the one year Merchandising Trainee Program to learn merchandising, supply chain, and operations at the corporate level. My passion for products turned into a career move to Petco Corporate where I worked as an Inventory Analyst and Associate Buyer from 2008-2012. During my time at Petco I also completed my Master’s Degree in Organizational Leadership from Quinnipiac University.

With my graduate degree in hand I evaluated what I truly loved about my job- and it came down to the product and how it affects the consumer. I took my job with CLA to really drive my love for pets and connect pet parents with great options in the retail market. Every day I see exciting products & ideas, and even more exciting are how the trends and consumer views continue to change as well. Working in retail has been so rewarding and I look forward to my career growth to continue to connect with the consumers.
